Sustainability is part of our daily work
Citycon has both a responsibility and an opportunity to have a positive impact on people, communities, and the environment. We believe that by acting responsibly, we create long-term value. We are committed to sustainable development in our operations. Citycon’s goal is to be carbon neutral by 2030 regarding Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Citycon strives for energy-efficient properties powered by 100% renewable energy.
The goal is carbon-neutral (Scope 1 & 2) shopping centers by 2030
Demands for active environmental work are increasing from authorities, from you as a consumer, and not least from ourselves. We try to take as much environmental consideration as possible in everything we do and have a clear goal to be a leading mall also in the environmental field. Often, both the environment and the economy are winners when green choices are made – in everything from location and material selection to energy and water use, waste management, and logistics solutions.
This was taken into account when Liljeholmstorget Galleria was built. A large part of the building material was produced locally, within a radius of 800 km from Liljeholmen. Materials were chosen that emit minimal odors and particles into the indoor air, which contributes to very high air quality.
Furthermore, we work actively to reduce our energy and water consumption and to increase our recycling rate. The property’s energy and water consumption, as well as waste flows, are continuously monitored, and immediate action is taken if necessary. During repairs and renovations, we always consider opportunities to improve energy efficiency. We also use only green electricity.
Certifications and building location
Liljeholmstorget Galleria has received the environmental certification BREEAM In-Use ”Very Good”. The certification covers both the center’s technical characteristics and operation, as well as environmental management work. BREEAM In-Use is an international environmental rating system for buildings that aims to reduce environmental impact during the use of buildings and to promote the development of healthier environments.
Liljeholmstorget Galleria has a very strategic location in Liljeholmen and is integrated with a subway station, bus terminal, and light rail. The parking garage is located underground, which maximizes land use – particularly important in a densely populated urban area. To use the land as efficiently as possible and achieve the goal of an urban structure close to services and public transport, new homes have also been built on top of the shopping center.
A special feature is the green roof between Liljeholmstorget and the adjacent office building. The parking garage also contributes to reduced emissions by directing low-emission vehicles to special green parking spaces.
